FLICK PICK – PUBLIC ENEMIES

public_enemies

I watched this movie before I left for Miami 3 weeks ago, and I haven’t had a chance to go back in the theatre, so as outdated as my choice may be…I feel it still makes sense for me to put it.

This was the 3rd movie I watched that week after Transformers and The Hangover [both of which were great by the way] I had been expecting it for almost a month now. I absolutely adore Johnny Depp. He has a mischievousness about him that makes him so sexy. And I truly do believe that he is one of the most versatile actors of our time. He embodies every single one of his roles to perfection. Sure, sometimes it’s easier to embrace the role of something obscene and far from realistic, rather than try to be someone you’re not in real life. Either way, Mr. Depp gets a standing ovation from me in every role. This one in particular even made me tear up. [Those who know me, know that's nothing new]

I don’t know what kind of expectations I had. I think in the overall delivery the movie met my expectations. There were things here and there that I felt were too extra, and I think at the end it dragged out a little bit for too long.

Basically Public Enemies is a crime film set during the Great Depression in America in the years 1933-1934. The movie focuses on the true story of FBI agent Melvin Purvis’s attempt to stop criminals John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, and Pretty Boy Floyd. The film is an adaptation of Bryan Burrough’s non-fiction book Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933–34. Christian Bale plays FBI agent Purvis, Johnny Depp plays Dillinger, Marion Cotillard plays Dillinger’s girlfriend Billie Frechette, Channing Tatum plays Floyd, Stephen Graham plays Nelson, and Giovanni Ribisi plays Alvin Karpis. If you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you check it out. It’s pretty good for a first time watch. Would I watch it again though? Probably when it comes out on DVD. I’d rather go see Hangover instead and laugh my ass off…or Obsessed and drool over Idris Elbaagain.
