THE COOL SPOT – VIVOLI’S (665 College St. Little Italy, Toronto)

Vivoli’s – I had dinner at Vivoli’s before my birthday party at Revival, and that was my first time there. It’s a small spot in the Little Italy area of downtown Toronto; College and Bathurst. It was really close to the club, and I had gotten some good reviews from people I knew so I made that the Chill Spot before heading to the club. If you know downtown Toronto, you know parking spots are scarce and this little restaurant has a small parking spot right next to it. Even though there are rarely any empty spots, it’s pretty convenient considering finding parking in the area, will be the most dreadful of times. Space inside is limited, even though the pleasant staff will try to accommodate you as best as possible.

I arrived with Niki and we had to wait by the entrance for a few minutes until they found a seat for 4 for us. I advised I had more people coming (a lot more) and they said they would make more room available. Indeed they did. What started off as a quiet dinner between Niki, Mike (Niki’s boyfriend) and myself, turned into a full on party. Soon 6 of my girlfriends joined me, then another 3, then another 2, then another 2, and soon enough it was about 20 of us taking up a whole area. The restaurant is pretty small, so imagine how crowded our table was. Our waiter did pretty good though. She did the best she could to make sure my guests were comfortable. The pizza oven was right next to us, and even though I didn’t try – what seemed as a delicious pizza – the spaghetti I ordered was just as good. So was the bottle of wine that had me wobbling and wondering for the rest of the night. Well that and some shots of Hennessy, combined with the Grey Goose at my booth, and whatever else I was drinking had me unconscious (but walking) by 1 am. No recollection of the rest of the night.

Back to Vivoli’s though. Besides the main dining area, they also have an adorable patio upstairs with a bar, open in the summer and rooftop in the winter. Usually small parties occupy the area and make for a great social gathering. I also happened to bump into a few other friends of mine who were having a drink at the restaurant first before making plans for the rest of the night.

My rating for Vivoli: 4 out of 5 stars – just because of the tight space and the limited parking in the area. Service, food, and location otherwise are excellent.
